This Summer's Mission Trip

Camp Barnabas Journal

June 23, 2008

Hello from Springfield, MO.

Well, we arrived in Springfield just a couple of hours ago and we have sunshine right now. Unfortunately they do expect thunder storms for the next 4 days. I'm telling the kids to hit the pool today because the rest of the week looks shaky at best.

The flight was pretty good...as flights go...but it is still not my favorite mode of transportation. We also had a newbie flying today...Jessica. This was her first time to fly and when she landed she called her Mom and said, "I do NOT like flying!" We did have a little turbulence coming into Springfield, but it was tolerable.

Check back here each day for daily updates to this running journal about our mission and you'll be as plugged-in as you can get. I would guess that most entries are going to be later in the evening, so don't get anxious if you don't see anything.

Be blessed and we'll type to you later.

In His tenacious grip, Jay

Barnabas Update...FINALLY!

Yes, I am finally back in civilization and am able to post an update...BUT...I am only doing a shortened version because I am exhausted mentally, physically, and spiritually. I am so wiped and am celebrating the most incredible Christian experience I have ever had. God was just molding, remolding, and forming a new heart within my soul and has really opened my eyes to some great new friends and relationships.

Going into the week I was probably more apprehensive than the students who came and really had some fears and short-comings to overcome on my own. And the first day in camp was almost terrifying in some ways,

BUT...

I'm not going to carry on much more and steal the thunder of the students who have great stories to tell. I will tell you that for the most part, we will be bringing back some different students. In many ways you'll see some changes, and in many ways you won't. Some of the changes are subtle and some are gigantic.

I highly recommend coming out for the July 20 dinner to wrap up the trip. We'll celebrate a time of Say So, a time at Camp Barnabas of sharing what's on your heart. I'm sure you'll enjoy hearing the stories and seeing the videos and pictures.

Until then...here are some pictures to give you a glimpse.

Jay
